Top Programming Languages Among Employers
IEEE Spectrum released their fourth annual interactive ranking of the top programming languages, combining 12 metrics from 10 carefully chosen online sources to rank 48 languages. While their interactive tool offers different options of how those metrics are weighted, below are the top 25 languages sought after by employers.
It's important to note that there are some pretty big changes from last year's list to this year. As Dice points out, "Swift places tenth on IEEE’s list, notably ahead of its predecessor, Objective-C (which sits in nineteenth place). Go, which drew a lot of attention as TIOBE’s programming language of 2016, is in eighteenth. Kotlin (now an official Android language) failed to make the list despite a recent swell of laudatory press in venues such as Wired. R places quite high, meanwhile, despite a reputation for very specialized use."
