Top Cities to Work in Tech in 2018
SmartAsset examined nearly 200 metro areas across the U.S. using metrics like average salary, average cost of living, tech employment concentration, unemployment rate and ratio of average pay-to-tech pay to determine the best cities for tech workers.
One of the biggest takeaways is to avoid the Northeast; the only city from this region that made the top 30 is Wilmington, DE. Iowa shines with two cities in the top five: Des Moines and Cedar Rapids. Coming in at third is Dallas, TX, where nearly 1 in every 20 workers is in the tech industry (BLS). Texas cities Dallas, San Antonio and Houston all beat out Austin when all factors were considered.
