Position: Software Engineer
Location: Des Moines, IA 50392
Term: 12 months
 
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
  • Able to work with guidance on software development/solutions.
  • With guidance, conduct analysis and development, elicit requirements, write correct and clean coding, automated testing, debugging, documentation, quality assurance review, implementation, and maintenance.
  • Able to work with guidance on multiple layers of the solution if needed.
  • Participates in technical design of features.
  • Learn, grow, and lead with your team as we seek to implement new technologies, build in security from the beginning, improve our coding practices, provide scale and performance capabilities, and evolve our engineering culture.
  • Support legacy business applications and SaaS solutions.
  • Explore cloud technology and scale cloud capabilities over time, including knowing the latest industry trends.
  • Participate in code/design reviews and learning technical design.
  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines that test and deploy software, data, and infrastructure artifacts across managed environments.
  • Collaborate with highly skilled architecture, technical engineers, and other roles on application design and architecture.
  • Own continuous improvement in yourself, your team, and the solutions you build.
  • Some travel may be required, including overnight stays.
  • May be required to provide on-call support.
  • Comply with a Code of Ethics which covers a number of obligations related to personal and business conduct as well as personal trading activities for you and members of your household. These same requirements may also apply to other positions across the organization.
 
Is this a good fit? (Requirements):
  • Associate's or bachelor's degree (computer science, technology, engineering or math-related field or equivalent experience)
  • 4 to 6 years work experience or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience as an IT professional.
  • Basic planning, organizational, problem-solving, analytical, decision-making and communication skills. Proficiency with database applications, knowledge of mainframe, distributed and/or web programming language.
  • Able to maintain a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Desire to learn new technology and continuously grow.
  • Ability to work on cross-functional teams and collaborate with both IT and non-IT partners.
 
Even better if you have:
  • Ability to obtain certification(s) in an IT related field.
  • Basic knowledge of insurance and financial services products.
  • Basic leadership skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
