Data Governance Analyst

Overall Responsibility:

The main purpose of this position is to assist the data governance team in the formation and execution of the data governance framework, policy, standards. This position assists in the implementation of an enterprise data governance program.

This position performs accountabilities under general supervision and leverages technology and analytic skills to apply intermediate data analysis practices that benefit business and IT strategic initiatives. Performs advanced data profiling, metadata capture, data lineage, data transformation rules in support of key program deliverables. Meets data management needs of internal and external clients according to established standards, including problem research/resolution and customer education. Provides data subject matter expertise to business and IT organizations. Performs intermediate data impact analyses in partnership with project teams. Participates in building strategic model solutions including transformation rules and attribute relationships.

Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Assists in managing and maintaining our data governance tool (Data360 Govern by Precisely).
  2. Actively participates in defining, loading and maintaining metadata.
  3. Partners with projects to facilitate adherence and execution of data governance standards.
  4. Seeks opportunities to enhance data management maturity.
  5. Assists with providing data governance oversight and setting of standards.
  6. Assists in implementation and execution of the data quality program to ensure data quality standards are being met.
  7. Adheres to the structure, best practices, storage needs of the data lineage.
  8. Assists in the arbitration of differences of data interpretations and guidance to projects, business and technology areas.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related degree or equivalent experience required.
  2. Minimum of 4 years’ experience in an equivalent position.
  3. Thorough understanding of Data Governance principles and practices.
  4. Strong verbal and written communications skills including the ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical personnel.
  5. Strong facilitation skills.
  6. Demonstrates strong understanding of data models, data relationships, mapping lineage and business rules.
  7. Experience using a data governance tool, Data360 Govern preferred.
  8. Ability to interpret T-SQL scripts, JSON code, SSIS packages, etc. to glean metadata information.
  9. Experience using the Microsoft BI stack including SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, and Power BI is preferred.
  10. Experience with APIs preferred.
  11. Experience in dealing with complex and dirty data sources originating in multiple formats.
  12. Experience in an educational environment preferred.
  13. Ability to work as part of a team and to work independently.
