The 2021 State of IT

​Spiceworks surveyed 1,000+ IT decision makers in their 2021 State of IT report to provide insight into future spending plans and the effects of COVID-19 on business technology.

Key highlights from the report:

  • 76% of businesses plan on making long-term IT changes due to the pandemic and the shift to remote work

  • Over half of organizations plan to keep flexible work policies in place permanently

  • 44% of businesses plan to accelerate digital transformation plans post COVID-19

  • 36% plan to improve IT operations & systems performance

  • 33% plan to improve security, risk, & governance

  • More than one-third of 2021 budget increases will be influenced by COVID-19

  • 80% of businesses anticipate tech spending to stay the same or increase

  • Updating outdated IT infrastructure continues to be the top factor driving IT budget increases — cited by 56% of organizations planning on growing IT spend — followed by an increased priority on IT projects (45%) and escalating security concerns (39%)

  • 17% of businesses plan to move to an “as-a-service” model or remove fixed-capacity costs due to COVID-19

  • 35% have or plan to accelerate migration of workloads to the cloud due to COVID-19
