Position:  Technical Writer
Location: Remote
Term: 3 Months Contract

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
  • Determine the needs of end users for the technical documentation required (where the end users are internal to the Company or IBM)
  • Work with technical staff to make processes easier to use, understand, and thus need fewer instructions
  • Engage and collaborate with customer feedback programs to address content gaps, respond to direct customer feedback, and promote continuous improvement of the documentation experience
  • Lead the organization, drafting, and delivery of any supporting technical documents
  • Use photographs, drawings, diagrams, animation, and charts that increase understanding
  • Select appropriate medium for message or audience, such as manuals, process documentation, and test evidence or samples
  • Master the use of our internal documentation toolchain, including the publishing platform and issue-tracking tools
  • Standardize content across platforms and media
  • Gather usability feedback from internal staff, end users, and IT counterparts
  • Revise documents as new issues or requests arise or feedback is received from IBM
  • Help preserve the Company or IBM knowledge
  • Help provide documents that may train other employees
  • Assist in managing the flow of information among project workgroups during development and testing

Is this a good fit? (Requirements):
  • 3+ years of experience in Technical Writing
  • Must be able to take complex, technical information and translate it for colleagues and consumers who have nontechnical backgrounds
  • Detail-oriented must be able to ask questions to solicit context and specifications and create detailed instructions for others to follow. As a result, they must be detailed and precise at every step so that the stakeholder discussions and proceeding documentation achieve maximum value
  • Imagination -- must be able to think about a procedure or product in the way that a person without technical experience would think about it
  • Teamwork -- must work well with others. This role will be as part of a team: with other writers; with designers, editors, and illustrators; and with the technical people whose information they are explaining/documenting
  • Must be able to understand and then explain highly technical information. Many technical writers need a background in engineering or computer science in order to do this
  • Writing skills -- must have excellent writing skills to be able to explain technical information clearly
  • Bachelor's degree in IT, computer science, or an arts or language field preferred
  • Experience with Google Suite for Business is a plus
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required
