Are you a Technical Writer looking for a new contract in Birmingham? If so please send us your resume as we have a position that is responsible for researching, creating and updating content for process manuals, operating procedures, specifications, and other documents for the division and department's training programs.  The Technical Writer is also responsible for evaluating and editing current content and developing innovative approaches for improvement.  Additional functions of the incumbent include meeting with business areas to identify the best format to document information for targeted audiences.  The incumbent is also accountable for managing clarity and consistency of technical content and its use across departments.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develops a thorough understanding of requirements by meeting and with business areas to discuss departmental functions and processes
  • Gathers information from SMEs to develop, organize, and write procedure manuals, technical specifications, and process documentation
  • Collaborates with SME’s in order to translate specialized topics into understandable content
  • Documents and edits complex technical data that meets the needs of the target audience
  • Creates, modifies and proofreads documentation including manuals, procedures, training guides, business communication and website information
  • Develops content in alternative media forms for maximum usability, with a consistent and cohesive voice across all documentation
  • Researches and identifies templates that allows for easy revision and document maintenance

Summary of Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree In Journalism, English, Communications or a related field 
  • Two or more years’ experience in a role specializing in Technical Writing
  • Experience writing documentation and procedural materials for multiple audiences
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Superior communications skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong organizational and work planning skills
  • Proven experience understanding complex topics and translating concepts into logical communication
  • Experience in a position collaborating with others to meet business objectives
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent research and analytical skills
  • Experience organizing templates and tools in a content documentation library preferred
  • Experience leading documentation projects preferred
This 6 month contract will be onsite as the covid restrictions loosen.
