Position Title: Data Center/Infrastructure Project Manager

Job Location: (Currently Remote) Chicago Area Preferred

Job Description:

A tier 1 carrier is seeking a Data Center Project Manager with a strong understanding of storage to manage the end-to-end data optimization, consolidation, and decommissioning efforts across multiple data centers and data storage nodes to reduce storage nodes and provide cost savings. These typically are hosted nodes, switches, storage devices, and interconnected elements using multiple technologies, topologies, and protocols across network locations.

The candidate must have experience coordinating and managing large-scale data migration projects, collaborating and working with multiple teams, and stakeholders, including capacity planning and system administration and storage optimization. They must also understand and manage the risk and challenges for each project and work proactively to reduce or eliminate those risks.

The individual must be an experienced Project Manager with excellent communications skills and can manage a team to achieve results within time, scope, and budget.


  • Manage end-to-end migration efforts with a focus on the data center directors and infrastructure
  • Coordinate project resources from various teams including Storage Operations, Capacity Planning, and System Administration
  • Work with data center teams on infrastructure needs and installs as well as hardware, fiber and power removals
  • Manage challenge and risk logs for all projects and continually work to reduce and eliminate risks in advance
  • Array and host research for status, model, OS, patching, etc
  • Host weekly calls for each project with entire project team
  • Effectively integrate scope, schedule and resources
  • Produce clear and accurate project timelines and meeting minutes with action items
  • Coordination with multiple application teams on downtime and host vulnerability
  • Ensure Change Requests (CR) are created in a timely manner and obtain all approval groups before start time
  • During migrations will be required to assist with opening bridge and meeting chat room, facilitating transition between migration milestones during CR window, confirming validations are complete and systems are returned to functionality
  • Work with vendors on implementing migration efforts
  • Negotiate application downtime when needed for reboots, upgrades, etc
  • Coordinate migration efforts and pathing validations with System Admin teams
  • Implement changes and adjust to moving timelines
  • Exhaust all attempts of resolution on any project issue or challenge
  • Monitors performance against project baseline and take corrective action to bring project performance in line with project plan
  • Track progress, update reporting and financial management as required
  • Provide weekly status updates in Virtual Project Management Office (VPMO)
  • Meet project commitments and move VPMO milestones in a timely and efficient manner

Required Qualifications

  • Five (5) + years of Project Management experience leading large scale Data Center Technology Initiatives, including:
    • Installation (Hardware, Power & Fiber)
    • Decommissioning (Hardware, Power & Fiber)
  • Three (3) + years of experience leading large Data Center Infrastructure Growth & Decommissioning Initiatives
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite of tools (Power Point/Excel /Word)


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent work experience
  • PMP Certification preferred
