Systems Administrator / Lab Manager
Our client is currently searching for a Systems Administrator for Lab Management to join our team in Annapolis, MD.

Job Summary
Seeking a motivated Individual with system administration experience, to be part of the Surface Transportation Integration lab team responsible for supporting the lab environments across the Annapolis, New York, and Ladera Heights California offices.. The Individual will design, review, interpret, and install Hardware and Software system infrastructures. The Individual will also assist in the lab as needed performing lab work, like rack fabrication, equipment installation and wiring as needed. Our team consists of integration engineers, technicians, and drafters. The Individual will work with these teammates to complete the variety of tasks within the labs. The main responsibility of the Lab Manager is to ensure the Lab machine infrastructure and networks are available for use, meets the needs of the organization, create, comply, and enforce internal project and lab policies, and they comply with corporate policies.

Job Responsibilities

  • Expert level understanding of Windows System Administration
  • Expert level understanding and implementation of VMware, Cyber tools, SANs, and Networking switches.
  • Knowledge of both Microsoft and VMware licensing
  • Work with development team to implement proper sizing guidelines for virtual machines
  • Experience developing scripts to automate system administration tasks
  • Experience deploying and administering Windows Server Update services
  • Experience deploying and administering Windows Active Directory
  • Experience with Linux System administration
  • Developing the Labs IT vision and translating it into actionable goals
  • Directing the implementation of new software and hardware
  • Coordinating IT activities to ensure the availability of network services and data
  • Ensure smooth delivery and operation of IT services by monitoring systems performance
  • Identifying future challenges in the IT Lab landscape and developing mitigation strategies
  • Identifying security vulnerabilities and eliminating them with strategic solutions
  • Identifying and recommending new technology solutions
  • Provide direction, guidance, and training to Lab users and Lab Admins
  • Consult senior-level lab stakeholders across the organization to identify business and technology needs and to optimize the use of the lab
  • Will also be assisting lab personnel with fabrication and lab work as needed

Basic Qualifications

  • Preferred Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline and 3 years of relevant experience in overseeing large information system
  • OR In absence of a degree, 5 years of relevant experience is required
  • 3+ years experience in building Virtual Systems
  • 3+ years experience in networking
  • 3+ years experience using Cyber best practices
  • 3+ years experience in planning hardware and software upgrades
  • Experience in building Systems from the ground up

Highlighted Requirements:

  • Expert in VMware (currently and actively using, managing and building in VMware + proven history doing so)
  • Understands networking (especially in Cisco switches, setting up networks, using virtual switches in VMware to correctly route traffic - so physical AND virtual switches)
  • Network attached storage - where compute power is done at the server
  • Labs host a myriad of virtual machines that users use - this person will be making sure that the machines/access are up and working and accessible, keeping data maintained and secure.
