We have a new, full time direct hire opening for an experienced Senior SQL Server Database Administrator. In this role, you will be responsible for tasks such as development of best practices and repeatable procedures for deploying databases, day-to-day operational activities including break/fix, capacity management, backup and recovery, database replication setup/management and ongoing database change reviews. The team also builds and maintains large-scale and very high transaction SQL Server databases on Windows Server platforms.  You will also work in tandem with the other teams, preparing documentations and specifications as required.

You responsibilities would include:

  • Provision and configure SQL Server instances for both new and existing products
  • Ensure performance, security, and availability of databases
  • Plan, implement, and maintain replication strategies
  • Prepare documentation and specifications
  • Handle common database procedures such as upgrade, backup, recovery, migration, etc.
  • Profile server resource usage, optimize and tweak as necessary
  • Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders
  • 24/7 Support of Production DB’s 

To be considered a good match for this role, we would expect the following experience:

  • Strong proficiency in SQL Server database management and administration including with large scale SQL Server databases
  • Hands on experience with designing and implementing database replication strategies including Mirroring, AOAG, and other replication models
  • Monitoring and alerting solutions
  • Knowledge of de-facto standards and best practices in SQL Server
  • Proficient in writing and optimizing SQL/T-SQL statements
  • Knowledge of SQL Server features such as partitioning, query store, maintenance plans, etc
  • Experience with backup and recovery strategies
  • Ability to plan resource requirements from high level specifications
  • Knowledge of limitations in SQL Server and workarounds in contrast to other popular relational databases
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools such as git
  • Strong technical problem-solving skills and working knowledge of common protocols such as SFTP, SSH, SMTP, DNS, and HTTP/S
  • Able to work under pressure and multi-task
  • Pro-active, dedicated, committed and responsible
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
