Position: Senior Principal Agile Engineer
Location: Houston, TX 77046
Term: 6 months
 
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
  • Act as a trusted advisor and guide to organizations throughout their Lean-Agile transformation, including the use of scaling frameworks and value stream identification and optimization.
  • Work with senior leaders to define strategies and roadmaps for adopting and transitioning to Lean-Agile practices.
  • Perform hands-on coaching activities, in the context of a program (or value stream): advise leaders on how to organize, mobilize, and launch teams, influence process execution by guiding product owners, mentor and facilitate events (as examples for team coaches or scrum masters to follow), and drive relentless improvement of process in support of teams’ efforts to work in a sustainable and smarter way.
  • Identify patterns of how teams in the program work together: positive patterns for reinforcement and negative patterns for improvement opportunities.
  • Design and lead workshops & training sessions to educate key individuals on the pragmatics of Lean-Agile values, principles, and practices.
  • Mentor and pair with, change agents, stakeholders, and program managers on becoming true Lean-Agile champions and developing lasting Agile capabilities.
  • Coach and mentor more junior Agile coaches/trainers; be an example of how to work self-directed by building and working your own backlog, how to influence organizational change, and how to remove local impediments and escalate systemic impediments to leadership.
  • Proactively collaborate with colleagues to ensure alignment in the approach and consistency to achieve customer satisfaction.

Is this a good fit? (Requirements):
  • A Master’s/ Bachelor’s Degree or commensurate relevant work experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrable, continuous Agile coaching experience at the team level.
  • Minimum of 12 years of practical Agile experience.
  • Minimum of 2 distinct experiences that include coaching at the program level.
  • 5+ years delivering Agile coaching utilizing a variety of methods including Scrum, Lean, LeSS, SAFe, XP, and Kanban; using collocated and offshore distributed delivery models.
  • Adaptive in your stance: for the benefit of the client, know when to take the role of a professional coach, consultant, facilitator, mentor, guide, and teacher.
  • Have deep knowledge of Agile principles and practices and the ability to transfer that understanding at all levels of the organization
  • Senior Agile Leadership skills with an ability to lead by example and challenge command and control behaviors.
  • Experience with Power BI, Atlassian (Jira/Confluence), Rally, and other Agile working software.
  • Enjoy challenging and thought-provoking work and have a strong desire to learn and progress. (motivated enough to self-learn)
  • Ability to pick up new technology independently.
  • Able to communicate with business clients at all levels in a competent and effective manner.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Good organization and planning skills – capable of managing own workload.
  • Able to work under pressure and multi-task while remaining professional and courteous.
  • Exceptional ability to analyze requirements/problems and to propose innovative but workable solutions
  • Demonstrate a positive, team-focused attitude. (i.e. Open-minded, flexible, and willing to listen to other people’s opinions)
  • Interpersonal skills are necessary to effectively communicate over the phone and via email with a variety of individuals at all technical levels.
  • Adaptable, a large variety of assignments will lead to working on different layers of application design project-to-project.
  • Maintenance of up-to-date knowledge in the appropriate technical areas.
  • Able to work in a global, multicultural environment.
  • Experience working in agile environments is mandatory. Prefer scrum master experience.
  • Experience with automated builds/deployments and continuous integration pipeline.
  • Experience working as a front face to the clients.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
 
Even better if you have:
  • Agile Coaching training and/or certifications.
