Terrific 6+ months contract opportunity in Medford NY for a Senior Buyer. Will purchase merchandise, materials, components, equipment, and/or services; performs a variety of production planning activities for products and/or production processes where the manufacturing process is variable.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
  • Purchases materials, parts, supplies, and equipment following established purchasing policies and procedures and optimizes price, delivery, and terms; typically purchases $1-$3 million per year; does not become heavily involved in the development of specifications, but the work is more complex than buying off-the-shelf items.
  • Investigates and identifies qualified suppliers; issues requests for quotations; may evaluate vendor reliability.
  • Determines method of procurement such as direct purchase or bid.
  • Reviews, approves and issues purchase requisitions; follows up and expedites as necessary.
  • Selects products for purchase by testing, observing, or examining items; estimates values according to knowledge of market price.
  • Coordinates purchasing activities with manufacturing and engineering departments to maintain inventory at planned levels.
  • Maintains procurement records such as items or services purchased, costs, delivery, product quality or performance, and inventories.
  • As required, monitors the cost, schedule, and scope of assigned subcontracts to assure best quality at best value.
  • Monitors market trends and conditions.
  • Plans and issues schedules and materials requirements.
  • Coordinates activates of Engineering, Production Control, Purchasing and other departments to achieve optimum utilization of facilities in meeting production schedules.
  • Provides input to management regarding problems such as shortages, design changes, backlogs, and the like.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) from a four-year college or university.
  • 2+ years ERP/MRP experience.
  • 5+ years of aerospace experience required. 3+ years of experience in both Aerospace and bills and material experience highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of Aerospace standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings for specifications.
  • Buyer experience with mechanical parts. Knows bills and material. Able to negotiate costs.
  • Epicore knowledge is a plus.
