Residential Specialist
Location: San Francisco, CA 
Term: 6 Months

Job Description:
The Appraisal Specialist works in the Collateral Valuations Department. This department is tasked with the independent management of the process of ordering and quality controlling the real estate appraisals and evaluations used to support Customer Bank's lending decisions.

The Appraisal Specialist is hired as a Level I, and is initially trained to perform one of the specific duties and responsibilities outlined below. Based on the needs of the Collateral Valuations Department, the Specialist may be trained to perform additional duties and responsibilities. The Specialists level can increase from Level I to Level V as new duties and responsibilities are added.

Responsibilities:
  • Residential Appraisal Assignment and Vendor Management: entering and updating appraiser information in the Department's production management system and appraiser database; processing appraisal order requests from the Loan Teams; obtaining bids for services from appraisers; selecting and placing orders with appraisers; communicating assignment conditions to appraisers; tracking appraisal delivery and working with appraisers and Loan Teams to answer questions, provide updates and ensure timely delivery.
  • Residential Construction Appraisal Assignment and Vendor Management: entering and updating appraiser information in the Department's production management system and appraiser database; processing appraisal order requests from the Loan Teams; obtaining bids for services from appraisers; selecting and placing orders with appraisers; communicating assignment conditions to appraisers; tracking appraisal delivery and working with appraisers and Loan Teams to answer questions, provide updates and ensure timely delivery.
  • Commercial Construction Appraisal Assignment and Vendor Management: entering and updating appraiser information in the Department's production management system and appraiser database; processing appraisal order requests from the Loan Teams; obtaining bids for services from appraisers; selecting and placing orders with appraisers; communicating assignment conditions to appraisers; tracking appraisal delivery and working with appraisers and Loan Teams to answer questions, provide updates and ensure timely delivery.
  • Residential Appraisal and Evaluation Quality Control: examining appraisal reports and evaluations for compliance with the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice, the Interagency Appraisal and Evaluation Guidelines, and Customer Bank requirements; communicating with appraisers to resolve report deficiencies; work with appraisers and Loan Teams to answer questions, provide updates and ensure timely delivery.
  • Commercial Appraisal and Evaluation Quality Control: examining appraisal reports and evaluations for compliance with the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice, the Interagency Appraisal and Evaluation Guidelines, and Customer Bank requirements; communicating with appraisers to resolve report deficiencies; work with appraisers and Loan Teams to answer questions, provide updates and ensure timely delivery.
  • Additional Duties and Responsibilities: processing the receipt of appraisals and invoices; performing duties & responsibilities specific to department functions & activities and as assigned by Department heads; adhering to and complying with applicable, federal and state laws, regulations and guidance, including those related to Anti-money laundering (i.e. Bank Secrecy Act, US PATRIOT Act, etc.); adhering to Bank policies and procedures,; completing required training; identifying and reporting suspicious activity to the AML Officer.

Is this a good fit? (Requirements):
  • General knowledge of mortgage loans required 
  • General knowledge of appraisals required 
  • General knowledge of appraisal regulations required 
  • Previous interactions with appraisers a plus 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 
  • Strong initiative and detailed oriented 
  • Independent and ability to multi-task High customer service skills Can work in a fast and high volume department 

Job Demands: 
  • Must be able to review and analyze data reports and manuals; must be computer proficient. 
  • Must be able to communicate effectively via telephone and in person

Desired Skills:
  • Real estate or banking experience would be helpful, but not required.
  • Call center rock stars would also be good candidates for these openings, but aren't required.
