Terrific 6+ months contract opportunity in Barrington, Illinois for a Laboratory technician. Will support projects in coordination with multiple researchers in the – Fruit & Vegetable (F&V) group.
 
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
  • Develop partnerships with Research Scientists and Engineers to effectively and efficiently meet business objectives.
  • Develop in-depth knowledge of and experience with technical methods coupled with some understanding of applicable scientific principles.
  • Work independently with little or no supervision to meet daily objectives.
  • Provide leadership in a team environment that supports the needs of the business units and laboratory.
  • Help develop the skills of less experienced technicians, new hires, and temporary staff, as needed.
  • Use technical experience to drive innovation and communicate more efficient processes and procedures.
  • Collect data, interpret it, and communicate observations to the Research Scientists and Engineers.
  • Demonstrates ability to focus and clearly communicate ideas, issues or problem and communicates results of work in an impactful way.
  • Provide leadership to safety, QA/Food Safety and sanitation programs as needed.
  • Systematically recognizes priorities (differentiating between urgent, important and less important) and automatically adjusts work plans / schedules accordingly.
  • Proactively communicate cross-functionally with the Business Units, Maintenance, Analytical, Microbiology, Safety, QA/Food Safety.
  • Ensure the lab area complies with Good Manufacturing Practices and Safety guidelines and established operating sanitation standards.
  • Support lab coordinator in common general lab activities.
  • Manage ingredient and lab inventory including tracking (lot traceability and expiration), record keeping of specifications and other crucial documents for incoming materials, and submitting samples for microbiological analysis of sensitive materials.
  • Order/purchase ingredients and products as necessary.
  • Submit samples to supporting groups for analysis.
  • Ship samples and ingredients.
  • Independently conduct laboratory experiments as designed by primary researchers. These duties include weighing and batching of ingredients, production of samples, and managing shelf life studies.
  • Perform food & beverage analyses using basic food analysis equipment such as pH meters, refractometers, moisture analyzers, water activity meters, viscometers, rheometers, texture analyzers, etc.
  • Support sample pack-outs, pilot plant runs, and plant process tests.
  • Assist with product tastings and R&D product showcases.
 
Qualifications:
  • 3+ years technical skills in Chemistry, or Nutrition, or the Food Sciences or previously been contracted with client.
  • Second phase regulatory/food safety experience.
  • Must have regulatory experience.
  • 2+ years’ experience supporting food safety teams.
  • Excellent scientific background.
