Position: Systems Engineer

Location: Raleigh, NC

Duration: 12 Months

Job Description:

Our client an industry leader in energy management is seeking a Systems Engineer to design, implement, analyze, secure and manage network equipment and supporting management systems.  Provides technical support for communicating and accessing data connecting to and passing through the IT infrastructure.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in data center and network operations, troubleshooting, and implementations required. 
  • Network security experience is preferred.
  • Strong Cisco routing and switching skills are required
  • Palo Alto and Cisco firewall experience is preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of network hardware, operating systems, applications and datacenter operations.
  • Sound knowledge of documentation processes, operational procedures, project planning and quality assurance techniques
  • Ability to design, implement, analyze, secure and manage network systems, interact effectively with all levels of the organization, provide assistance to business units and provide recommendations to improve IT systems and business processes is required. 

Responsibilities:

  • Develops project plans to test, configure and troubleshoot solutions approved through established project and development processes. 
  • Creates and maintains system documentation on configurations and data flows.
  • Recommends operational improvements to reduce maintenance or costs, improve operations and avoid problems.  Understands developments in the computing, telecommunications and utility industry and the impacts and opportunities such developments present to the cooperative.
  • Maintains and troubleshoots routers, circuits, switches, firewalls, management systems and other network equipment.
  • Coordinates trouble calls with Network Operations Center, telecom providers and customers.
  • Assesses IT assets for adherence to security procedures and watches for signs of compromise.
  • Develops and recommends technical and operations solutions and undertakes related work needed to effectively operate the department.

Academic and Trade Qualifications: Associates degree in Computer Science or equivalent required.  Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent preferred.  Combination of training and work experience may be substituted for the educational requirements.
