Long term contract in Henderson, NV for a Consumer Mortgage Underwriter.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Work with the company Mortgage Operations team to effectively manage the loan pipeline to meet estimated closing date requirements.
  • As needed, participate in weekly pipeline calls with the Loan Fulfillment Vendor processing staff, underwriting management, and Closing Department.
  • Evaluate conforming and jumbo mortgage loan risk through review of loan application information and supporting file documentation.
  • Clarify risk by requesting additional information.
  • Perform accurate application of company loan criteria, guidelines and standards for each assigned loan, ensuring that loans submitted by the Loan Fulfillment Vendor for company final sign off are accurate and complete.
  • Ensure any loan returned to the Loan Fulfillment Vendor for corrections is documented in the system with details of why the loan was rejected.
  • Review property appraisals and determine acceptability according to the bank’s requirements.
  • For loans with exception approval, ensure the required sign off is in file.
  • As assigned, prepare initial Credit Memos for loans requiring an escalated level of approval (i.e.; Director of Credit, Chief Risk Officer).
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal regulations for type of loan presented.
  • Identify and record application deficiencies required for rejecting mortgage loan in accordance with Regulation B.
  • Assist with needs of Loan Officers, Loan coordinators, Closers, Document Drawers and Funders.
  • Respond to questions, queries and requests with suitable information.
  • As assigned, provide support to company’s rate lock review process.
  • Work with the company’s Mortgage Operations Team to enhance underwriting guidelines, checklists, processes and procedures.
  • Recommend areas of improvement for department written documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with data and electronic security policies.
  • Complete assigned regulatory compliance training within designated timelines.

  • 3+ years as a mortgage underwriter, including experience underwriting jumbo loans and high net worth clients.
  • Working knowledge of consumer mortgage lending compliance requirements including Regulation B, TILA/ RESPA, Privacy, TRID, Fair Lending, UDAP.
  • Knowledge of appraisal requirements and experience evaluating reports for accuracy and reasonableness.
  • Knowledge of insurance requirements, including title, flood and hazard.
  • Ability to review and interpret lending guidelines and apply them consistently to assigned work.

Preferred Skills
  • Knowledge of Texas (50)a(6) loan requirements
  • Overall knowledge of the loan processing workflow to include set up, lock desk, processing and closing.
