Seeking a proactive  Purchasing Assistant with indirect Procurement experience to support and negotiate with suppliers on behalf of a Corporate Procurement team for a contract opportunity.

This person will manage assigned spend categories and be responsible for developing and implementing category strategies that maximize the client's Supply Chain. This role will entail supporting sourcing projects, continuous improvement plans, supplier service level agreements, day-to-day demand management, etc. Support / lead national and global procurement initiatives, industry benchmarking, and design / implement a robust, KPI driven management system.  The ideal candidate has experience across multiple indirect categories, such as IT, marketing, Finance, travel, corporate services, Facilities, etc.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage the procurement relationship between the client and its suppliers within this product category (supplier selection, supplier development, contract negotiations, supplier issue resolution, supplier cost reductions, purchase order approvals and management)
  • Develop collaborative relationships with Business Stakeholders (including senior leadership) and suppliers
  • Provide leadership and management for key indirect categories and multiple procurement projects
  • Drive industry-leading results in meeting critical cost savings, quality, and service objectives by managing the sourcing and evaluation process (RFx, auctions, cleansheeting, negotiations, etc.)
  • Drive change, compliance, and continuous improvement in the procurement organization
  • Jointly develop and implement category strategies to drive direction and results
  • Manage sourcing projects, key initiatives, and supplier negotiations
  • Strategize and verify spend analysis, market insights, Service Level Agreements (SLAs), and total cost of ownership
  • Assess current business and legal risks in existing and or new contracts
  • Draft and Negotiate contracts and/or statements of work between the client and suppliers
  • Build accountability for supplier performance relative to contracted service levels
  • Manage supplier payment terms to drive improvements in Accounts Payable Days Outstanding

 

Education/Skill requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Finance, Business Administration or related field, (MBA a plus)
  • CPM, CPP, or CPPC Certifications a plus
  • 3+ years of experience of indirect procurement or similar analytical role (Finance, Merchandising, Planning, etc.)
  • 3+ years of vendor management or contract management/negotiation (preferred)
  • Firm understanding of procurement best practices (i.e. reverse auctions, e-sourcing, etc.) and emerging trends
  • A strong understanding of negotiation techniques, strategies, and possesses the skills required to execute
  • An in-depth knowledge of the sourcing process
  • Experience developing and managing Supplier SLAs that hold supplier accountable for performance
  • Must have a strong command and understanding of fundamental analytical techniques, and has the ability to accurately draw conclusions and interpret data
  • Experience with managing multiple high-value (multi-million dollar), high visibility sourcing initiatives simultaneously
  • Demonstrated contract negotiation experience across a range of services and commodities
  • Experience with interpreting and drafting contractual terms
  • Experience with developing and implementing successful cost saving initiatives
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with a keen understanding of relevant cost drivers
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams in achieving or beating challenging goals
  • Demonstrated ability to manage, develop and coach others
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
