Our Healthcare Insurance client is seeking a Business Process Consultant to join their team for a contract-to-hire role!

Our client is a not-for-profit with headquarters in Durham, NC.

Position: Sr. Business Process Consultant
Location: Remote - The majority of the roles at this client will continue working from home until at least the end of 2021. Once it is safe to begin working onsite, staff can choose where they work – from home, in the office, or a hybrid of the two.
Term: 6 months with the intention to convert to FTE of the client

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
As the Sr. Business Process Consultant, you will work in the Commercial Sales area of this health insurer. Seeking to significantly change their current manual processes and move towards automation. Everything is under review: sales leads, quoting, underwriting, product management, the processes to how they fulfill a sale; enrollment, id card delivery; portal enrollment, fulfillment, follow up, etc.. The ideal BPC will use their skills to influence/ challenge the status quo in a diplomatic way. You will be an advisor/consultant.  Currently, there is  too much custom work and too much manual work. This client has invested heavily in new tools and they are seeking to leverage those tools and processes. This position will work on cross functional teams to drive process improvements using Lean, Six Sigma, and other continuous process improvement tools.

  • Support Enterprise Initiative projects in a specialist role. Apply relevant tools and techniques to assess impact based on changes to the enabling technologies that support business processes. Lead development of future state process and drive changes across business and operations.
  • Lead large, complex and/or ambiguous Business Process Improvement projects identified across the enterprise. This includes application of continuous process improvement skills and methodologies to articulate the problem, baseline current state, analyze root cause, recommend improvements, and monitor results. Achieve an outcome that provides sustainable solutions to the client.
  • Lead divisional leaders through identification of Business Process Improvement project opportunities and the prioritization and sequencing of the resulting project portfolio
  • Support the deployment of process excellence across the enterprise through delivery of formal training on Lean and Six Sigma, mentoring projects executed within a division, and championing business process methods in communities of practice.
  • Lead internal management consulting efforts as identified and as needed. This includes unbiased assessment and resulting recommendations to managers and executives.
  • Contribute to structure, procedures, and templates within the department to enhance the value-add to the enterprise. Works with department leadership and colleagues to continuously improve department offerings and share best practices of business process knowledge and tools
  • Proactively mentor other Business Process Consultants and Business Process Consultant Associates within the department, both formally and informally.
  • Execute projects, deliverables, and measurable results in the context of Enterprise Process Architecture and strategic enterprise goals

Hiring Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree and 6 years experience (or Masters degree with 4 years experience) as a Management Consultant, Business Analyst and/or Project Manager.
  • If no degree, 8 years experience as a Management Consultant, Business Analyst and/or Project Manager is required.
  • Six Sigma


Hiring Preferences

  • Healthcare is a MAJOR plus
  • If no healthcare, Insurance or Banking is preferred
  • Masters Degree in Business, Information Services, Statistics, or Engineering is preferred.
  • Experience modeling business processes using a variety of tools and techniques.
  • Proven success handling complex and/or ambiguous business problems and consulting with leaders regarding larger scale process redesign or change management.
  • Proven track record of self development and professional growth


Business Process Management

  • Hands-on experience in the application of business process analysis tools including but not limited to: Current state processes analysis, current state performance and metrics, issue identification, root cause analysis, business case development, cost benefit analysis, future state design, roles and responsibilities, metrics, process control and management Proven ability to plan and deploy business process initiatives
  • Proven ability to apply business process principles to ambiguous and complex business solutions
  • Ability to create visualization and high-level models that can be used in future analysis to extend and mature the business capabilities
  • Proven facilitation experience in complex, high risk, group dynamics including designing workshops, facilitating sessions and working with teams
  • Ability to develop metrics, collects data, analyze data to identify root cause, measures performance against process requirements.

  • Lean Six Sigma Certification at Black Belt or Master Black Belt level preferred.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification preferred.
