Data Governance Specialist

Our client is seeking a Data Governance Specialist for a contract opportunity in Addison, TX! 

Working as part of the Data Management team, you will work on data governance and core data management initiatives to lay the foundation for enterprise data policies, standards, and optimized systems/processes to leverage data as an asset. As a Data Governance specialist, you will work with a cross functional team worldwide on Data Governance related tasks. This role plays a critical role in fulfilling the mission of the client by helping ensure we protect the critical data used to make the promise of Enriching Women’s Lives a reality for our Independent Beauty Consultants. This role requires critical thinking and understanding of different levels of technology with an emphasis on managing data with guidance.

Responsibilities
  • Understand current state of the data
  • Work with a cross-functional team to define a Data Governance roadmap
  • Policy management – Create effective policies and standards based on inputs to standardize our approach to data use, promote consistency and reduce risk of using data inappropriately.
  • Effectively documenting the data landscape and create awareness within the organization of what data exists and where it is sourced.
  • Implementing metadata management with a data governance framework to increase visibility into what data is available, where it’s located, and what it means.
  • Drive data quality assurance and policy creation with business partners
  • Work with Global Privacy teams to understand requirements and implement required changes working with application owners
  • Continuously adjust and level set to ensure roadmap success, if course correction is needed, work with stakeholders to ensure a new course is set and that expectations are communicated
  • Work to ensure clear accountability for stewardship of our information assets via policy, procedures, and Assessments; record application and process owners, and require their approval on Assessments
  • Liaise with our product and development teams to ensure data governance requirements are included in product planning cycles
  • Work with our compliance teams to develop, update, and manage policies and procedures related to data governance
  • Define indicators of performance and key metrics to measure compliance with data related policies, standards, roles and responsibilities, and adoption requirements
  • Work with our security operations teams to implement controls to detect and/or prevent risks to our data

Required Skills
  • Education: B.A/B.S. diploma/degree in Information Sciences, Business Administration, or equivalent applicable experience, plus
  • Experience: 2-3+years of experience working with Data Governance, with hands on experience in creating data governance policies, and procedures. Has a solid grasp of technical functionality for various IT systems including data governance / privacy platforms.
  • Experience driving change within an organization, including communication, culture change, and performance measurement / system design
  • Knowledge of Data Security / Data Governance practices and approaches related to data protection
  • General understanding of security architectures and principles
  • Experience in drafting and managing data policies, business data processes and business glossaries
  • Knowledge of data technology initiatives and core data management strategies/best practices
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships across multiple business or functional areas
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills to collaborate successfully with a diverse group of individuals, including region partners, IT teams, corporate marketing, and outside vendors
  • Experience working with business stakeholders to understand and document requirements, integrating business knowledge with technical solutions
  • Self-sufficient, organized, with ability to execute multiple projects at the same time
  • Effectively transfers task execution and timeline requirements to stakeholders and colleagues
  • Understanding of the needs of a Direct Selling company, or experience working in the beauty industry – nice to have, not required
  • Preferred experience with OneTrust platform for Data Governance including Data Mapping, Data Subject Access Request, Data Discovery, and Assessment Automation modules
  • Preferred experience with managing database, data architecture, or big data systems
